In today’s post our director, Sandra Corcoran, shares a little bit about herself.  From starting her working life in a solicitors office to owning Pennine Cycles, it has been quite a journey…
I am a proud Bradford lass who was brought up on a Council Estate.  I surprised a few people and went to Grammar School after passing my 11+.   However, I left school at 15 with no qualifications.  I got a job as an office junior in a Solicitors office, where I worked my way up to Partners Secretary.  During this time I attended Bradford College on day release and evenings.  I was proud to come home with the highest qualifications.
After a few years, I went to work for the local government, where I continued to obtain qualifications, including my DMA.  One of my regrets is I never wore my cap and gown to celebrate.  After a successful career, I was facing redundancy so I decided it was time to leave when I was in my 50’s.
After this, I did various temporary paid jobs including helping social entrepreneurs set us something in their community which they were passionate about.  I also trained as an NHS Health Trainer to work in the community as a freelancer.
This was a busy period in my life as before I left the local government myself and Paul became the owners of Pennine Cycles, we also got married in 2003.   Paul already managed the bike shop and when the opportunity came for us to buy it, we had to say yes!
About Sandra Pennine Cycles
I first become involved with cycling in my early 20’s when my ex-husband started cycling.  He competed for Yorkshire and England so we would travel the UK, Europe and even America for races. Many times I could be found stood in rivers and cleaning  bikes as he mainly competed in cyclo-cross.  Back then I never dreamed of owning a bike shop!
As owner and director of Pennine Cycles, I love to help people in cycling.  I also do some public speaking and lots of networking to spread the Pennine Cycles story, share my journey and help to motivate others.  I’ve been the finalist in a number of women in business awards and I am so proud Pennine Cycles is an award winning business.

One of my favourite sayings is “(S)he who dares, wins.”
