An Enjoyable Night in Bradford
Over a week has passed since the 2013 Dave Rayner Dinner was held at the Hilton in Bradford. Pennine Cycles has been attending since the first year and in 2014 they will commemorate 20 years. The fund was set up in memory of cyclist Dave Rayner and helps to support young riders race abroad.
We had a table for 10 and everybody had a fantastic night, starting with catching up with old and new friends before taking our seats. First up for the evening was a game of heads and tails where everybody puts in £1 and you put your hands on your head or bum and a coin if flipped until there is a winner. This year there was a huge bottle of champagne and a watch from Festina given to 1st and 2nd place, no-one from our table won!
We were then treated to some delicious food, the starter was pate and toast, main course chicken with lots of vegetables and potatoes with cheesecake to finish. Our Managing Director Paul then arrived after his exciting trip to London as part of the Lord Mayers Show which took place on the same day, you read all about that here.
After dinner we were introduced to the current Dave Rayner funded riders, some who were interviewed are set to be the future of cycling. This was then followed by hearing from the stars who were in attendance, including guest of honour and UCI ProTeam Garmin-Sharp riderDan Martin who is a former Dave Rayner funded rider. Other guests were Team Sky riders Ian Stannard, Josh Edmondson, Ben Swift and Olympic Champion triathlete Alistair Brownlee. It was interesting to hear all about the 2013 season for each of them and what they expect 2014 will bring. We also got a chance to meet the riders later in the evening and all of them were really nice and we wish them all lots of luck next year.
It was then time for the auction which is where the fund raise money, this year there was some great memorabilia including Chris Froome’s signed yellow jersey. After the auction there was a raffle too. The evening ended with lots of dancing and talking!
We love attending the Dave Rayner Dinner every year and we recommend it to anyone who has an interest in cycling (or just likes a good time) to come along in 2014 and support a fabulous event. You can find more information about the Dave Rayner Fund and donate online here.
