2015 was another fantastic year.  We watched plenty of cycling with races like the Tour de Yorkshire, won a prestigious business award and began to stock some great new brands.

In February Paul and Sandra celebrated 15 years of owning Pennine Cycles.  It’s a great milestone and always nice to celebrate such achievements.  When Paul began working in the shop he never imagined he would one day become the owner.  2016 will see the 70th anniversary of Pennine Cycles and we certainly can’t wait to celebrate then!

Bike Races

As fans of cycling we love to watch it as much as we can.  After the excitement of the 2014 Tour de France coming to our home county of Yorkshire we weren’t sure how 2015 would live up but it was still great.  We spent the first weekend in May watching the Tour de France legacy race the Tour de Yorkshire, this is the first of many and it was a fantastic event.

Our own race, the Nige Moore Memorial Road Race, put on by members of V.C. Bradford was another success.  As always we were thankful to all the riders, volunteers and sponsors who made it a great race.  In 2016 we would like some sunshine though!

We watched many races on the TV throughout the year including all the Grand Tours, the Classics and the World Championships to name a few.  We were pleased to see Peter Sagan winning the World Champs as he wears Sportful clothing who we are stockists of.  It was also great to see Yorkshire’s Lizzie Armitstead winning the ladies race.

We were nominated for a Telegraph and Argus Bradford Means Business Award for retail, hospitality and lesisure.  We were absolutely delighted to have won!  We were nominated for the award by our customers and it was such an honour to win.  You can read more about the evening here.

Our Director, Sandra, was also shortlisted for a Forward Ladies award again for retail.  We are also nominated for 3 Yorkshire Choice Awards for 2016 – Pennine Cycles for Independent Business, Paul Corcoran for Business Man and Sandra Corcoran for Business Woman.  You can place your vote here.

Small Business 100

To celebrate Small Business Saturday which is an initiative to promote the support of small businesses like ourselves, we were selected as one of the Small Business 100.  This meant we had a day in September were we were showcased throughout the UK.  In December we were also invited to showcase our products and business at an event at the Treasury Dome in London.  Here we were visited by the Chancellor and helped to raise awareness of not only our shop but businesses in the north as a whole.

New Brands

We are always passionate about the brands we sell and only stock products we believe in.  This year we added two great product lines to our shop.

The first is Bianchi bikes.  We have always admired the Bianchi brand and are delighted to now be stocking this prestigious Italian brand.  Bianchi has a great heritage and has been ridden by some of the greatest cyclists.  They are sononomous with the celeste colour but you can also get many of the models in other colours too.  We stock the full range including road bikes, hybrids and mountain bikes.

Towards the end of the year we also began stocking a new nutrition brand, OTE Sports.  As a local business to us we always like to support other Yorkshire companies but we also love their products.  The energy products taste great and do the job of helping you ride stronger and better.  We had a great launch evening with them in November and are happy to be stocking these products.

What’s great is the Lotto-Jumbo professional team use both of this brands too so they have to be our favourite team for 2016!

V.C. Bradford

We continue to sponsor our cycling club V.C.Bradford.  The year began with our annual club dinner and awards evening were we recognise members who have been racing or contributed a lot to the club over the past year.  We are delighted to welcome new members and we are always welcoming to new people for next year.  The club have continued their Sunday rides and had some great fun, visited plenty of cafes and increased their fitness levels along the way.

2015 was a fantastic year for us and we are looking forward to 2016!  Next year we have our 70th Anniverary celebrations, our Nige Moore Memorial Road Race, the Tour de Yorkshire and we are sure many more things to look forward to!
