During a trip to Durham, Sandra and Caroline of Pennine Cycles came across part 5 of the Tour Series on Tuesday 27th May 2014. It was a happy coincidence to be there and of course we had to watch and share with you! As we weren’t prepared we didn’t manage to follow our spectating tips but luckily we had our phone so we could take some photos!
Having walked from our hotel along the side of the river we came to the race just behind the start/finish line, as the race began we waited in anticipation for the first lap of the Tour Series criterium. This took just over 3 minutes showing just how short and fast circuit was.
Once we watched a few laps it was time to head around the course.
As we were walking we arrived at the pave (cobbles) which were on a steep and long uphill section of the course. This explained why on lap 2 the race was blown apart.
Before the pave the riders had a steep downhill section followed by a tight right hand bend.
We managed to take some photos of the riders and we were pleased to see the race was well supported in Durham. Unfortunately we didn’t see the finish but it was won by Jon Mould of Team Raleigh. You can read the official race report on the Tour Series website.
If the Tour Series comes near you we would recommend you check it out!
