A little late with this one…. Been, busy, busy….
Last Thursday (31/07) I headed over to the Pendle Forest 10 for the first time. I’ve been meaning to give the course a go for a while, but its proximity to the Kildwick 10’s the day before and our normal Thursday club ride have meant it’s taken quite a while.
The conditions were good, lovely and warm and not too much wind. The course is most definitely one of two halves. Starting at Thornton-In-Craven it heads steeply (for a TT) downhill to the Elslack TI; by which point you are probably averaging a nice 35mph without too much effort. From there is heads along the A59 with a few rolling ups/downs to the top Skipton TI (the same turning point as the Kildwick 10) with only a slight rise to the turn-around. Heading back things become a little harder! Back along the A59 is generally nice, with a repeat of the few rolling rises, but back at the Elslack TI you begin the climb back to Thornton-In-Craven, which is a genuine hill. As a result you see your average speed plummet, which is a little disheartening, but whilst it may not be the fastest course it’s certainly interesting and challenging.
On the night Richard Bideau (Pendle Forest CC) put in a great ride of 21.34, which was a new Pendle Forest Club record, top effort! Second was Andrew Wooler (PH Mas) who I’ve been trading places with at local TT’s all Summer with 22.33 and I was third with 22:49.
I really enjoyed my first effort at the course, I’ll be back (although there’s only one more left for the season). Many thanks to Pendle Forest for hosting and all the helpers and marshalls involved!
The Strava action is here for those inclined.
