On Sunday 29th June 2014 we held the second Nige Moore Memorial Road Race. It was a huge success and we would like to thank all the cyclists who came on the day, all our helpers and all of the local businesses who supported our race!
Our race is held in honour of VC Bradford member and Pennine Cycles friend Nigel Moore who sadly died in 2013. He was an avid cyclist and loved everything cycling, we are proud to keep the race on his name.
It started off as a rainy morning as the race got underway, thankfully the weather did dry as the race progressed. Our riders were flanked by cars provided by Clemo Garage, the front one being yellow in honour of the Tour de France! We had a neutralised start from the Rock and Heifer Inn to the start line where racing then began!
It was a great race with plenty of attacks and a few breakaways. By the final few laps we had a clear winner in Michael Harris who won the £200 prize money which was donated by Barclays Bank.
We also had 4 Prime prizes and the winners were:
Samuel Verdier, AC Brevinois who won a £50 Pennine Cycles voucher kindly donated by Angela Farrell, partner of Nige.
Joseph Wilkinson, Albarosa who was the winner of an Arbonne protein set donated by Keil Nelson who was also our Chief Judge on the day!
Richard Middleton, Batley Cycling Club, who won a leg massage at Aroma Nicol. Nicola was also providing massages on the day to the riders.
Michael Brown, Birdwell Wheelers, winner of a session with Active Eat.
Nige’s family have donated a trophy to be given to the first VC Bradford member to finish, this year it was Steve Ayres. He will have the trophy presented at our annual club dinner. He also received a steak dinner for 4 which was a combined prize from Ellisons Butchers and the Rock Cafe!
With a few laps to go we had a clear winner, Michael Harris from Huddersfield Star Wheelers. In pursuit of the winner was Billy Harding of Orange Monkey Pro Team. Billy is still a junior rider and one we are sure to keep an eye on in the future! Third place went to Timothy Mansfield of Huddersfield Star Wheelers. It was great to see fantastic performances from all three.
We received some fantastic photos from the day and these can be found on our Facebook page.
Thank you once again to everyone who was involved – See you next year!
