Many of our customers who visit our shop know how proud we are to be a Bradford based Yorkshire business.  As a bike shop we were established in 1946 by 2 friends Johnny Mapplebeck and Geoff Whitaker who came back from the war with no jobs to return to and whilst in Europe had fallen in love with Italian bicycles.  They called the business Whitaker and Mapplebeck (cycles) Limited and a few years later began trading as Pennine Cycles.

Those passions which were discovered in the 2 young men all those years ago continues to drive through Pennine Cycles today.  The shop has come along way since those early dreams.  Johnny continues to live in Canada and we know he we will proud of all what has been achieved in recent times.   the Grand Depart in Yorkshire, the Tour de Yorkshire and ourselves winning the Bradford Means Business award.  We have also recently been nominated for a Bike Biz Independent Bike Dealer award and our Director Sandra is nominated for a Forward Ladies Women in Business Award.  We can proudly say the last 18 months have been some of our favourites to date!

On Thursday 3rd September we are one of the highlighted businesses in the Small Business 100. Nationally 100 businesses are being highlighted and as Thursday is also the national Bike to Work today we were selected along with London bike shop, Balfe’s Bikes, to be showcased.  For 100 days small businesses are being featured all leading up to Small Business Saturday on the 5th December 2015.  Last year we had a great day celebrating with our Christmas Shopping Event and we will be sharing on our newsletter what we have planned for this year closer to the time.
