The Thursday before the Tour de France started was the beginning of an exciting weekend for us all at Pennine Cycles. The biggest annual sporting event was almost in Yorkshire and it was time to celebrate with the Team Presentation at Leeds Arena. We set off to Leeds early as our yellow Tour de France Pennine bike was featured in a Yorkshire fashion show.
We were delighted our yellow Pennine was chosen to be on stage throughout a Made in Yorkshire fashion show. The show took place at The Carriageworks in Leeds and was showcasing local Yorkshire designers and Yorkshire wool. To open the show our dotty King of the Mountains Pennine was broadcast on the big screen from a previous photoshoot. You can take a look at this on our video. Our yellow bike was on stage throughout the show.
Not long later and it was time to walk up to the First Direct Arena where the Team Presentation was being held. We had fantastic seats which were central to the stage. There was a feeling of anticipation and excitement around the arena. Once the show kicked off we were treated to live music, dancing and opera! In between was the presentation of all the teams and riders who would be taking part in the Tour de France. As you can see from our video each rider rode his bike along the special bike path to center stage. In each team at least one rider was interviewed, generally it was the team leader or the ‘superstar’ of the team.
The biggest cheers of the night were for Cav and Team Sky. It was also fantastic to see Simon Yates riding his first Tour de France for Orica GreenEdge.
Once all the riders had been on stage it was time to hear from Christian Prudhomme, who is the General Director of the Tour de France and Gary Verity, CEO of Welcome to Yorkshire. Both gave inspiring speeches and it was clear before the race had even begun what an impact Yorkshire has had on the Tour de France!
It really was a fantastic evening and it got us all excited and waiting in anticipation for a fabulous weekend of cycling.
