PENNINE FRAMES

Pennine Handbuilt Frames – Made in Yorkshire, UK

At Pennine Cycles, we are proud to handcraft our steel road frames at our premises in Bradford, West Yorkshire. Every frame is custom-built to your exact specification, with countless options available to make your bike truly unique. All of our frames are made using Columbus or Reynolds steel tubing — materials renowned for their strength, lightness, and durability. A Pennine frame is designed to last a lifetime, ride beautifully in all conditions, and deliver the comfort and performance that steel is famous for.

Made For You

Each frame set is built from scratch, giving you complete control over the design of your dream bike. While we typically use Columbus tubing, Reynolds is also available if you prefer — after all, this is your bike.

You can customise:

  • Geometry: size, reach, and fit tailored to you
  • Practical details: bottle cage mounts, mudguards, pannier racks, and more
  • Aesthetics: single or multi-colour paintwork, transfers, and even your name on the frame

Because each frame is individually crafted, the build process takes approximately 8–10 weeks from order to completion.

Heritage & Craftsmanship

We have been building steel frames since 1946, originally under the Whitaker and Mapplebeck name before adopting the Pennine brand in 1952. In those early years, frames often featured hand-painted artwork by May Mapplebeck — scenes that made each bike a rolling piece of art.

Today, customers from all over the world still contact us to renovate and restore their Pennine frames. Many of these bikes are decades old and still going strong, a testament to the quality of our craftsmanship.

Our master frame builder has over 40 years of experience, blending traditional skills with modern design to produce frames that are as relevant today as they were in the golden era of steel.

A Bike For Every Rider

Pennine frames are versatile — perfect for enthusiastic road cyclists, year-round commuters, or winter training with added mudguards. We have even created bespoke bikes for organisations, such as the custom Pennine built for Sir Gary Verity during the Tour de France Grand Départ in Yorkshire in 2014.

World Renowned

Pennine frames are proudly ridden across the UK and around the world. While we always love to welcome customers into our Yorkshire workshop, we can also work with you by phone or email to capture everything we need to build your perfect frame.
